Bill Nichols / Reporter

A Dallas native, Bill learned how to play hockey at the Ice Palace in Richardson. A Richardson High School grad, he majored in English at San Francisco State. He spent 10 years at The Dallas Times Herald, and two years at The Winston-Salem (N.C.) Journal before joining The News in 1994. He has covered UT, the Stars, the Cowboys and his current beats, Golf and High Schools. He and his wife, Sarah, also a Richardson graduate, have three lovely daughters.

Corbett Smith is a writer for SportsDayHS. He has been a freelance journalist for nearly a decade, working primarily with The Dallas Morning News and The Wichita Eagle. A sixth-generation Texan, he followed his football-coaching father to various stops around the state, ending up in Alice, the "Hub City." He lives in Oak Cliff with his wife, Nicole, and daughter, Maren.

A left-hander, he spent much of his childhood in Arizona dreaming of playing in the major leagues and watching his fastball get crushed into orbit. Matt had never stepped foot in Texas before joining The News, but his sons are now fond of the word "y'all."
